Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have had a great start to the 2019/20 school year. Thank you to all our families for supporting your child(ren) as they continue to adjust to new routines both at home and at school. We would like to thank the many families who were able to make it to our Meet and Greet last night.  It was wonderful to see our community spend a few hours together reconnecting and meeting the staff.

Welcome: We are excited to announce that Madame Gillis will be the junior and intermediate French teacher for the duration of the 2019/20 school year.  Many families had the opportunity to meet Madame Gillis last night at our meet and greet. Thank you for welcoming her to our school community! We would like to thank Madame Lobsinger for coming back and supporting our junior and intermediate students this week. Madame Lobsinger will be at Brookville next week supporting the Primary core French program.

School Communication:   For those families that are new to Brookville, we will send out a weekly or bi-weekly Buzz-this newsletter- that will provide you with upcoming events and a review of the past week. If you know of a family who is not receiving this newsletter please encourage them to contact the office to update their email address.  We will put a copy of this message on our website for all to access.

Have you joined us on

Twitter @BrookvillePS

You can also view our Twitter feed on the school website.

School Information Packages: This week parents received a comprehensive package of materials related to school programs. Please read, complete and return all forms immediately to the homeroom teacher. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or the office staff, and we’ll be happy to assist you. All forms are due back by Monday, September 9, 2019.

Council:  If you did not fill out a form to be a voting or to hold an executive position on council please fill out the form below and drop it off at the school by Friday, September 13th.  The election, if required, will take place at our first meeting on Monday, September 23th, at 7:00 pm in the library.

Pizza Orders:  If you would like to order pizza for your son or daughter please order by September 18th on Brookville’s School Cash online.  Please see our website for more information.

Photo Day: Our photo day this year is on Tuesday, October 2nd. We can’t wait to see all of those great smiles!

Clothing / Dressing for the Weather: This becomes the tricky time of year where we can sometimes experience what feels like many seasons in one single day. If our students are dressed in layers, it’s easier for them to adjust their clothing for outdoor play as the temperatures change throughout the day. Don’t forget to label those sweatshirts, as we usually end up with a Lost & Found bin full of them!

Fire Drill:  We had our first fire drill practice of the year today, and our students did a great job! They exited the building quickly, quietly and we couldn’t have asked for a smoother drill.  Each year we have six practice fire drills. Three in the fall and three in the spring. We will have two more fire drills this fall.

Cross Country:  Forms have gone out & are due back ASAP for any students in Grade 3-8 interested in running with our cross country team.  We will practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at first break (9:55) at Brookville Park. This is a short season, so students are encouraged to attend all practices in order to be on the team for our Oct. 3rd  meet.

  • September   11th -13th ~ Mansfield trip for Grade 7 students

September 2019 Welcome Back

Dear Brookville Families,

Welcome Back and Happy New School Year.  What a wonderful summer we have had filled with lots of sunshine!  We are looking forward to welcoming returning and new students to Brookville next week.  We know our new families are going to love being a part of the Brookville community.

This time of year is always exciting for staff as it is a new beginning for all of us! We have been busy preparing to welcome our new and returning students back to school.  It has been a flurry of activity over the past few weeks! Our caretakers have once again, done an amazing job ensuring Brookville is ready for September 3rd. In the office we have been busy registering children, preparing school procedures and making sure we are equipped with materials for teaching and learning.  Our teachers, DECE’s and educational assistants have been working together to prepare classroom learning environments and materials in preparation for a new school year! What a great team we have!

We have many new staff members joining our team this year.

  • Mr. B. DeGier who will be joining our junior team

  • Ms. Murphy our music teacher

  • Mr. Emma who will be teaching intermediate math until Mrs. Brown returns in the new year.

  • Welcome to Mrs. Pittarelli (Tuesday’s) and Mrs. Logan (Monday mornings)  who will be joining our office staff

We would also like to welcome back Mrs. Grant who has returned from her maternity leave.

We are currently in the process of hiring a core french teacher for our intermediate students as well as a core french teacher for our primary students.  We have Occasional teachers in the building next week to support our students until we are able to hire teachers for the duration of this school year. Welcome Mrs. Kent and Ms. Langill for joining us next week!

All of our staff are excited to welcome our Brookville school community as they exit the bus on the first day of school. Both staff and students look forward to reconnecting after their summer vacation.  As students exit the bus they will be directed to the appropriate area where they will meet their homeroom teacher. Our Kindergarten students will enter the school through the front doors immediately after exiting the buses.  Primary students (1-3) will gather on the South blacktop, Junior students (4-6) will meet on the North blacktop and our Intermediate students (7-8) will meet and enter the school on the blacktop located at the back of the school.

During the month of September, we will be re-establishing routines, getting to know one another and build new relationships with new families and staff. For all students, a new school year is full of excitement and opportunity. We encourage all our students to engage in opportunities to develop their talents and skills to learn, grow and succeed as well as developing a strong sense of belonging and pride as a student of Brookville.  We appreciate your confidence and trust as we continue to focus on best practices and innovative teaching strategies to support students at Brookville. I would like to encourage you to become involved in our school community through various volunteer opportunities that will be available throughout the year.
